Wombat gets around with Osteosarcoma

Wombat

We noticed Wombat limping in October of 2005. When his limp did not go away we had x-rays taken but they did not show anything. His limp continued and in November we saw a small bulge on his left for leg near the elbow. This time the x-rays showed Osteosarcoma. A biopsy confirmed the diagnosis.

In order to give him the best chance of survival, amputation was recommended and this was performed in December 2005.

On the advice of an holistic food supplier Wombat was immediately switched to a grain free diet. Over a two month period he then had 4 chemotherapy treatments and we started him on a number of holistic supplements. After some research we decided on the Canine Osteosarcoma Support and Maritime Pine Bark Extract which we get from the team led by Robert McDowell at:
www.herbal-treatments.com.au

The support staff there have been alongside us all the way, with free 24/7 advice and back-up. We combined the Herbal Treatments program with a number of other supplements, as guided by our Holistic Vet.

Wombat gets around quite well, though with just three legs it is harder work for him, so I don't walk him as far and we try and avoid steps. I also have our Oncology vet x-ray him every 5 or 6 weeks and so far he has been clear.

Twelve months down the track, we are very happy and we think Wombat is very thankful for his extra year with us and we hope for many more to come.
